Toni Kroos says he has been left stunned by the reception of his criticism on Arsenal captain Aubameyang over his extravagant celebrations.

Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos admits that he was surprised by the angry reactions his comments at Arsenal star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has pulled from the public.

Speaking last week, the Germany international commented that he felt the Gabon star’s decision to celebrate goals by pulling on a superhero mask was a step too far.

Aubameyang hit back at Kroos, saying he only did them for his kids and will gladly do them again.

Mesut Ozil also backed his Arsenal teammate in what was a swipe at the Real Madrid man who has also criticized him as well.

Speaking to Bild, Kroos said of Ozil: “I’m not surprised by anyone anymore. I found it very amusing, but in the meantime, I’ve put it behind me.”

Asides the backing from Ozil and a couple other stars, the general reaction from the public was a negative one towards the Real Madrid star. It’s safe to say many felt the comments were totally unnecessary.

Kroos has played an integral role for Real Madrid this season and has played in nine of the club’s 11 matches so far this term.

The reigning Spanish champions have made a slow start to the season but the German is among the players backing coach Zinedine Zidane to turn the club’s fortunes around.
