Report: Atletico de Madrid won’t offer Diego Costa a contract renewal

Spanish striker Diego Costa may be leaving Atletico de Madrid in January after the club’s lack of interest to offer him a new deal.

Diego Costa has spent most of his career with the Colchoneros. However, the Spaniard hasn’t lived up to his talent since his return to Madrid from Chelsea in 2017.

The 32-year-old striker has only featured in seven matches for Atleti this season. Not only has he been struggling physically, but Costa also has some tough competition in the squad. Luis Suarez and Joao Felix have been lethal for the Colchoneros this season. Consequently, it has been harder for Diego to regain space within the team.

According to Italian journalists Matteo Moretto and Fabrizio Romano, the La Liga side won’t be offering Diego a contract renewal. Moretto claims Diego Costa could be leaving Atletico as soon as January if any good offers appear.

Moreover, the journalist also mentioned that the Colchoneros have already found a replacement. Napoli outcast Arkadiusz Milik, who tried to leave the club last summer, is Atleti’s main target. Reports suggest that the Polish striker will finally get his wish in January as he will be allowed to make a move.

Diego Costa spent seven seasons in Madrid between in the last decade. The striker collected 215 appearances for the club, netting the goal a total of 83 times and adding 36 assists to his name.
