The Atletico Madrid striker made a goalscoring return from injury only to see that ‘b*stard’ outscore him.

Diego Costa jokingly called Luis Suarez a ‘b*stard’ for outscoring him in Saturday’s win against Elche, but he welcomed the competition all the same.

Atletico Madrid claimed a 3-1 victory over Elche to retain their spot as La Liga leaders. Suarez scored in both halves to take his tally for the season up to seven goals in only nine games, with Costa supplying the club’s third goal.

The former Chelsea star, who has recently bounced back from a bout of deep vein thrombosis, marked his return by scoring a penalty in a 17-minute cameo.

“I wasn’t here and Suarez wasn’t scoring; I come back and he gets two, the b*stard!” joked Costa as quoted on the Mail.

“I hope he keeps it up. I am very happy, the more goals he scores the better for Atleti.

“We are going to keep winning and respectfully competing against each other, he came out and scored twice and then I came in and hit one.

“If we want to win something big that’s the way it has to be, like when we won the league, one player went out, another came in and was up to the task, we had a great team.”

Atletico will next travel to San Sebastian for a top of the table clash with second-place Real Sociedad on Tuesday evening.
