Let’s take a look at Luis Suarez’s return to form with a brace that took Atletico Madrid back to the top of the Spanish La Liga against Elche.

Atletico’s Diego Simeone was just talking about Luis Suarez’s struggles to get back into form due to the coronavirus. The Uruguay international was having a rough time getting his fitness back, as anybody who gets infected with the virus does. Today, he had a new chance to get back on track by scoring a goal or two as he starred against Elche at the Metropolitano.

From the very first minute of the match, you could see Luis still struggling a little to get long passes from players like Koke or Llorente. But the star never gives up, it’s not in his nature to surrender when adversity hits him in the face.

Every single time he made the movement, the midfielders decided to take the pass even if they knew he wasn’t getting there. Luis Suarez knew he needs to train his lungs again after overcoming the virus. It took him a little longer but he finally got to a ball right before halftime.

Trippier sets Suarez up for his first goal.

Five minutes from the break, Kieran Trippier was the one who saw Luis Suarez making the move again inside the box. The English full-back didn’t hesitate and sent a low pass in which Suarez could maneuver better. As a response, we finally saw him get to the ball and release a first-touch strike that allowed him to break that goal drought. With that confidence in his head, Luis got to score his brace after a precise cross from one end to the other delivered by Carrasco.

With these two goals, Atletico Madrid got back on track as the title contenders for La Liga. In the end, Diego Costa even got to score a goal on his return from a long injury recovery. But the man of the match was Luis Suarez, who finally found his goals again. Perfect timing for a player whom Atletico Madrid urgently needed.
