It all happened during a recent interview with a Dutch outlet, Memphis Depay made a surprising FC Barcelona transfer admission.

Up until today, we really had no idea if Memphis Depay was willing to give up to higher pay in order to play at FC Barcelona. We know he has a deep connection with Ronald Koeman from their time in the Netherlands National Team. The Olympique Lyon star became his country’s most important footballer during that period. But contrary to what Wijnaldum did after signing for PSG, Memphis confirmed he won’t betray Koeman’s trust.

In fact, all Depay cares about is playing under the Barcelona manager again. He knows his best performances have taken place with Koeman as his coach. There was a level of fear that a bigger offer would come knocking on Depay’s door. If he agrees to play for Barcelona, he would only make half of what he is being offered by clubs such as PSG or a Premier League side. Assuming he signs a contract to become a Barcelona player, Memphis would earn around €6 million per season.

Barcelona doesn’t want another Wijnaldum case.

In recent weeks, the conversations between both sides intensified in order to reach a proper agreement. Keep in mind that Barcelona is getting this player for free because he finished his contract at Olympique Lyon. They were initially afraid he would be persuaded by a club with more money like Wijnaldum was. However, Memphis sent a stern message during an interview with NOS: “As I’ve said before, the transfer will become clear on its own. It remains to be seen, I want to leave it at that.

“Everyone knows that I have been linked to them for a long time and that I want to play under Ronald Koeman, let’s wait and see. Then the news will come by itself. Everyone knows that I have been linked to them for a long time and that I want to play under Ronald Koeman, let’s wait and see. Then the news will come by itself. I don’t think other clubs pose a threat in Barcelona’s chances to sign me.”
