The Red Devils ended their run of back-to-back defeats as Ronaldo scored his 17th Premier League goal of the season.

Manchester United and Chelsea drew 1-1 in their Premier League game on Thursday. The Red Devils remain out of the top-four race as Chelsea hold on to their third spot on the table.

An instant equalizer!

The game started with both teams hesitating to push forward for the opening goal. A goalless draw in the first half saw David De Gea deny Kai Havertz twice with brilliant saves. However, United found almost no chance of scoring.

Chelsea looked much improved after the interval, starting their efforts to open the scoring as soon as the second half started. They finally found the back of the net through Marcos Alonso just before the hour-mark.

However, only two minutes later, United bounced back with an equalizer. Following a poor clearance by N’Golo Kante, Nemanja Matic sent a chip pass to Ronaldo inside Chelsea’s box. The Portuguese superstar latched on to the ball before firing a powerful strike behind Edouard Mendy to make it 1-1 for his side.

Chelsea remained in charge of the possession for the rest of the game and had several chances to score the winner. However, the Red Devils managed to keep their defensive integrity and escape the game with a point.

What’s next for United and Chelsea?

United might drift even further from the top four if West Ham and Tottenham win their respective games this week. On the other hand, Chelsea now feels more pressure from Arsenal, who are only six points behind them on the table.

The Red Devils will take on Brentford on Monday while Chelsea prepare to meet Everton a day earlier.
