Ahead of his highly anticipated return to Anfield, Gerrard revealed how strongly he rates the Reds’ star man.

Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard says Mohamed Salah is ‘100%’ the best player on the planet.

The former Liverpool captain made this huge admission ahead of his return to Anfield on Saturday, as his Aston Villa side face the Reds in their latest Premier League fixture.

One player Gerrard will be sure to keep an eye on is Salah. He is under no illusions of the challenge his squad faces, with Egyptian forward arguably in the best form of his career.

“Mohamed Salah is 100 percent the best player in the world now,” said Gerrard in a press conference.

“His football has done the talking. I think you always have to be respectful when a guy like Lionel Messi picks up the Ballon d’Or, and other players who have come close. But there is just no way to dress it up or down, Mo Salah is the best player in the world at the moment. That’s a fact in my eyes.”

The former Rangers boss is the latest Premier League legend this week to debate Salah’s star status after Alan Shearer and Thierry Henry.

Shearer, like Gerrard, is convinced the Liverpool man is the world’s best player, although Henry doesn’t think he is quite there yet.
