As part of the transfer plan for PSG this season, Leonardo made an incredible claim about the two biggest stars he currently has at the club.

PSG’s biggest stars are Neymar and Mbappe, but Leonardo doesn’t seem to care about their future that much. Contrary to Nasser Al-Khelaifi, the Brazilian sporting director seems to think that the club will only have players who actually want to be there. This seems more like a direct message to Mbappe, who’s been dismal lately and might push to leave next summer.

This is a vastly different approach than what we know historically from this club, especially from the high command. Al-Khelaifi is infamous for making his players’ life a living hell when they attempt to leave. But Leonardo doesn’t seem to think in the same vein as his sporting director. The Neymar situation is slightly different because he finally feels comfortable at PSG and he might even renew his contract.

Leonardo’s message to Neymar and Mbappe.

In case you didn’t know, PSG’s first order of business in the transfer window is to renew Neymar’s contract. Out of the two players, he is the more experienced and the most reliable. Mbappe’s youth and inexperience is a major factor that could affect his future at the club, which is why his renewal is not as important. However, both players are considered key to PSG’s success. Leonardo’s message is pretty clear to both though, PSG won’t force any player to stay anymore.

“I hope the players are convinced that they are in the right place for a high-level and ambitious player. We’re not going to beg them to stay,” Leonardo explained to France Football. “You just have to find an agreement between your desire, your demands and our means and expectations. If a player likes the club then they will stay. Those who really want to stay will do so; we’re in contact and I’m confident.”
