A draw in the latest Merseyside derby does not mean Everton can be seen as equals of their bitter rivals, insists Carlo Ancelotti.

Everton twice came from behind to nullify their deficit as their match against Liverpool on Saturday ended in a 2-2 stalemate.

The Toffees have now failed to get the better of neighbors in the previous 23 encounters, with their last win coming at Goodison Park a decade earlier in October 2010.

Carlo Ancelotti’s men even came very close to suffering a defeat as Jordan Henderson sent a thumping strike home in the dying minutes of the game, but the goal was ruled out on VAR review for offside.

Ancelotti, despite the fine start to the season, is aware that his side have much work to do before and are still far off in quality from the title-holders.

“I think we have improved in this game, we competed well, properly,” the Italian said reflecting on his team’s most recent match, as Goal reports.

“Of course, it is really difficult and this doesn’t mean we are at the same level as them (Liverpool) because we are not.

“I think the level we have reached now is a good level. We have seen we can compete but the problem for the season is the consistency the team needs to have and I hope we can keep this quality and attitude to show consistency.”

Everton, however, will care little about their poor Merseyside derby record as the draw strengthened their hold at the top of the Premier League table.

They will look to get back to winning ways upon their trip to Southampton next weekend in Premier League matchday 6.
