Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo says he is ready to make the necessary decisions amid reports linking the club to Diego Costa and Wijnaldum.

Wolves boss Nuno Santo is ready to make needed changes to his squad as the January window throws its doors wide open. One of such changes could come with the availability of a certain Diego Costa.

After terminating his contract with Atletico Madrid, the Spanish forward is a free-agent and can negotiate with clubs directly for the winter window.

Costa has been linked with a return to England and Wolves are among the most prominent sides linked to the 32-year-old. Wolves would normally have no need for the forward but a long-term injury to Raul Jimenez means Nuno might need to add firepower upfront.

The former Atletico man already has Premier League experience and could be the answer for Wolves on a short fix.

Asides Costa, another name in Liverpool’s Georgino Wijnaldum has been linked with a move to the Molineux as well.

The Dutchman was linked with a move to Barca all summer but it never materialized. With just six months left on his contract, he is also free to start discussing with other clubs regarding a potential move.

Nuno refused to give much away on Wolves’ January transfer plans but admits they are ready to evaluate and make decisions regarding their squad.

He said via the Wolves’ official website: “We have to sit down, plan and I think it’s a good chance to rebalance our squad, so we’ll see. We are ready to make decisions.”

Some games have already been called off this season due to covid-19 and Nuno admits the continuity of the pandemic could make transfers difficult and a bit more complicated in general.

He added: “All the managers and everybody has accepted that this situation is unprecedented and has never happened before, so we are reacting to situations on a day-by-day basis, that you cannot plan or predict.”

“Every time there is a test you are worried. Every time you hear about the cases rising you are worried. You are worried about the players, you worry about the schedule, you start worrying about your future, but we are not away from society. These feelings go all over society – everybody is worried.”

Nuno will be hoping his Wolves side can get back to winning ways in the Premier League when they take on Brighton at the weekend.
