Breaking news coming from England as Monday’s Everton vs Manchester City Premier League match has been postponed to a later date.

Today’s Everton vs Manchester City Premier League match has been postponed to a later date. The reason is as most of us feared, there have been some Covid-19 cases spotted within Manchester City’s camp. The Citizens had already confirmed four cases within the staff after Christmas Day but players came out positive today. Both clubs agreed that the best course of action is to postpone the game that was supposed to be played today.

This news comes as a shocking turn of events during the most difficult months of the Covid-19 pandemic in England. As a new strain of the virus has been discovered in London, there has been a rapid increase in cases over the last few weeks. There has been no further confirmation about the players who tested positive for the virus but we will let you know as soon as we have more reliable information.

Manchester City’s official statement.

The Citizens issued the following statement on their website: “Manchester City FC can confirm that this evening’s Premier League fixture at Everton has been postponed. After the latest round of Covid-19 testing, the club returned a number of positive cases, in addition to the four already reported on Christmas Day.

“With the security of the bubble compromised, there posed a risk that the virus could spread further amongst the squad, the staff and potentially beyond. Based on strong medical advice the Premier League, in consultation with both clubs, have decided to postpone the fixture. All positive cases involving players and staff will observe a period of self-isolation in accordance with Premier League and UK Government protocol on quarantine.

“The first team training ground at City Football Academy will close for an indeterminate period, with the squad and associated bubble undergoing testing before any decision is made for training to resume. Everyone at the Club wishes all of our colleagues a speedy recovery ahead of their return to work, training, and competition.”
