Why is Inter president Zhang meeting up with Conte?

Inter Milan president Steve Zhang has been pictured meeting up with coach Antonio Conte during the build-up to the big game, but why?

Antonio Conte is preparing his Inter Milan side for their biggest game of the season.

The Italian league runners up are about to face Shakhtar Donetsk for a place in the Europa League final.

It represents Conte’s last opportunity to deliver a piece of silverware for the club in his debut season as their coach.

Zhang has invested heavily in his manager’s vision, but evidently it was not enough to overthrow the dominance of Juventus domestically.

Conte himself has been outspoken about the club’s hierarchy and this is said to have left tension in the air between both parties.

The meeting between the pair seemed quite amicable as well as supportive from the likes of director Marotta.

While it is nothing unusual even for an absentee owner like Zhang to make an appearance in light of such a significant match, it has raised question marks.

It’s either a very public show of support for a manager who has brought about improvement if nothing else.

Or it could be seen as the age-old gladiatorial embrace before for the execution. With failure by Conte possibly being the last straw after millions in an investment yielding no return.
