Inter Milan are reportedly readying an offer for Manchester United misfit Chris Smalling, who enjoyed a telling loan at Roma in 2019/20.

Smalling has managed to reignite his career at Roma following a tumultuous period at Manchester United.

The 30-year-old centre-back, who excelled at the Stadio Olimpico, has been Paulo Fonseca’s defensive pillar, making 37 outings across various competitions.

Although the ‘Giallorossi’ fought tooth and nail to keep the Englishman permanently, United’s non-negotiable £20million valuation has curtailed their hopes of clinching a deal.

Despite just recently returning to Old Trafford, Smalling is likely to move on in the summer after falling out of favor with Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

After Newcastle United and Juventus both expressed transfer interest, Inter Milan have now joined the race for the experienced defender, per Sports Mole.

Smalling’s remarkable showings for Roma have caught Antonio Conte’s attention, as the Italian coach looks to expand his Manchester United camp at the Giuseppe Meazza.

Conte has already raided the Red Devils for the likes of Romelu Lukaku, Alexis Sanchez, and Ashley Young over the past 12 months.

The towering central defender could soon team up with his ex-teammates again as he favors Inter’s interest over Newcastle and Juventus.

Unlike Roma, the ‘Nerrazzuri‘ have no financial issues and can meet United’s demands without inflicting too much damage on their summer budget.
