Borussia Dortmund’s defender Mats Hummels expressed his anger after his team lost 2-1 against Union Berlin last night.

The German side bagged their fifth defeat of the season at the Kopernick district with the Berlin side closing in on them. Dortmund could be left 9 points behind Bundesliga’s leadership as Leverkusen and Bayern Munich face each other this afternoon.

Last week, Mats Hummels hinted that the team’s poor form was related to the manager’s tactics. However, Lucien Favre can’t become the scapegoat anymore as he was sacked from the club only six days ago. Edin Terzic had a good start to his managerial career with a win over Werder Bremen. Despite this, the interim-manager wasn’t able to help Dortmund secure their second win in a row since October. Not even Moukoko could save the German side as he broke the record for Bundesliga’s youngest goal-scorer.

Hummels, being one of the most experienced members of the squad, was chosen to represent the club in the post-match interview ahead of captain Marco Reus. However, the defender looked very annoyed as he approached the interview zone. Moreover, he decided to display his frustration by punching the interview board.

This time, Hummels claimed there was no one else to blame but the players themselves, criticizing the actions (or lack of them) of his teammates.

“The opponent’s strongest header of balls was left wide open,” Hummels complained. “For me, that’s incomprehensible. We’re throwing ourselves into the fire. We’re responsible for our own defeats.”

Dortmund will have a shot at redemption next Tuesday as they embark on a more accessible clash in the German Cup. Maybe this time the German center-back will like the sponsors a little better. Until then, lets just watch Hummels take out his frustration on the surprisingly sturdy board.
