Carlos Soler found the back of the net three times from the spot to hand the defending champions their first league defeat of the season.
It was a defensive horror show by Real Madrid as they succumbed to a 4-1 La Liga defeat on Sunday night.
Karim Benzema opened the scoring with a sublime finish as he rifled a powerful drive from the edge of the box, and that was pretty much the only positive from the match for his side.
Three of Valencia’s goals came from the penalty spot, with the fourth one coming as a result of Raphael Varane slicing the ball into his own net.
Lucas Vazquez’s handling of the ball inside the box led to the first spot-kick. Thibaut Courtois saved Carlos Soler’s first attempt but couldn’t do much when the penalty was retaken after a lengthy VAR review.
Marcelo was at fault for inflicting the second penalty while captain Sergio Ramos‘ handball inside the 18-yard box resulted in the third, with Soler concerting both to get his hat-trick.
To add to Zinedine Zidane’s worries, Benzema hobbled off the field clutching his thigh after it appeared that he had picked up an injury.
The La Liga champions now sit in fourth position in the league table with 17 points from seven games with a game in hand.
