Tottenham hope history repeats itself on Sunday ahead of their first Premier League showdown with Manchester United since that infamous 6-1 win in October.

A lot has changed since then, though. Spurs have dropped out of the title battle and sit down in seventh in the Premier League and 11 points behind second-placed Manchester United ahead of the last eight games of the season.

Revenge will surely be on the Red Devils’ mind for this one, and their record on the road is decent. But Spurs have had longer to prepare and can’t afford to drop points in the top-four race, suggesting another cagey affair awaits in north London.

Tottenham Form & Stats

Joe Willock’s late equalizer condemned Tottenham to a 2-2 draw with Newcastle last weekend. The Lilywhites dropped vital points and currently have a five-point gap to recover against fourth-placed Chelsea, who beat Crystal Palace 4-1 on Saturday.

Spurs are on a rough patch of form, having only won one of their last four games in all competitions (D1 L2). But while chances of another 6-1 triumph over United are unlikely, they can record a first league double over the Red Devils since 1989/90.

It won’t be easy, but a first home fixture in over a month helps. Jose Mourinho’s men previously won their last three home league matches by at least a two-goal margin and only conceded once.

Harry Kane, meanwhile, is out to reach the 20-goal mark for the fifth season in his Premier League career. Only four players have achieved this feat in the English top-flight’s history in Alan Shearer (7x), Sergio Aguero (6x), and Thierry Henry (5x).

Key Team Stats
  • On a 5-match winning run at home in all competitions and conceded just 1 goal.
  • Lost 5 consecutive league games against the established top 6 clubs.
  • Surrendered a half-time lead 6 times and drawn on each occasion.
  • Jose Mourinho has only lost 4 of his 23 games against Manchester United in all competitions (W10 D9).
  • Hope to become the first club since Manchester City in 2018/19 to record a league double over Manchester United.
  • Harry Kane and Son Heung-min have either scored or assisted 40 of the club’s 51 league goals.

Manchester United Form & Stats

The Red Devils made it back-to-back wins on Thursday by beating Granada 2-0 in the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final. They’ve now won four of their last five games in all competitions (L1) and have been better away from home.

United now take the daunting trip to Spurs on Sunday. North London hasn’t always been a lucky spot for them in the past, having won just one of their last eight visits to the Lilywhites (D4 L3). And with Jose Mourinho set to deploy his usual conservative approach, things could get tricky in the capital.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side, however, cannot be underestimated for this one. They’re currently on a 22-match unbeaten run away from home (W14 D8), which is the third-longest stretch in Premier League history.

It’s also worth noting that United have grabbed a league-best of 11 goals after the 80th-minute this season, while Spurs have dropped 11 points through conceded goals in the last 10 minutes of a match.

Key Team Stats
  • Won 4 of their last 5 games in all competitions (L1).
  • Won only 1 of their last 8 away league games against Tottenham.
  • On a 22-match unbeaten run away from home in the league (W14 D8).
  • Conceded only 1 goal in their last 7 league games against the established top-6 clubs since a 6-1 defeat to Tottenham.
  • Marcus Rashford recently became the first Manchester United player to score at least 20 goals across all competitions in back-to-back campaigns since Wayne Rooney (2008/09, 2009/10).
