The Villa boss tested positive for the virus on Saturday.
Aston Villa will not have their manager Steven Gerrard on the touchline for their next two games. The manager has tested positive for COVID-19 and will miss the matches against Chelsea and Leeds United.
Last week, the Premier League postponed Villa’s game against Burnley due to a Covid outbreak at the club. This will be huge setback for Gerrard’s side, who are finding their rhythm after a long time.
The Villa defeated Norwich City 2-0 in their last league game on December 14. They have managed to climb their way up to tenth place on the Premier League table.
The Liverpool legend has found a convincing start to his managerial career at the Premier League. Since his appointment, Gerrard has improved Villa in almost all areas.
He took over the Midlands side when they were a few points away from the relegations zone. However, wins over Brighton, Crystal Palace, Leicester and Norwich have propelled Villa up on the table.
Gerrard is also keeping an eye on the market as he prepares for his first window in charge of Aston Villa. The biggest rumour around the club’s January plans is their potential move for Liverpool’s Joe Gomez. The defender is reportedly Gerrard’s favourite addition for his side’s backline. However, Liverpool have no intention of selling him this winter.
Villa will face Chelsea on Sunday, before their match against Leeds two days later. Gerrard will most likely return to the dugout for their league game against Brentford on January 2.
