The Chelsea pair have been isolating since coming into close contact with a coronavirus-infected club teammate.

Gareth Southgate is still unsure about Mason Mount and Ben Chilwell’s availability for England vs Germany on Tuesday.

Mount and Chilwell were both missing from England’s Euro 2020 group stage matchday 3 fixture against Czech Republic at Wembley.

The pair had been forced into self-isolation after being in prolonged contact with Chelsea teammate Billy Gilmour, who later tested positive for Covid-19, in the tunnel at Wembley after the scoreless stalemate with Scotland.

Training privately at St George’s Park, the midfielder and the defender will be in quarantine till Monday. Although missing the team training this week, they remain in contention for the Three Lions’ next outing – but their availability isn’t guaranteed.

“Both of them have been doing training in small groups, away from the main group so they have been able to keep up their match fitness,” Southgate told ITV Sport on Sunday.

“In terms of team selection and involvement against Germany, their quarantine ends at midnight the day before the game.

“Their involvement in the game will not only be from a physical perspective, but a psychological one too as they have been in a room on their own for a long period of time.

“Therefore we have to consider this too before picking the squad ahead of the Germany game.”
