Many backed the South Korean to pick up the Puskas right after he scored the goal, but an ex-Arsenal defender still remains unconvinced.

Son Heung-min didn’t deserve to win the 2020 FIFA Puskas award for his goal against Burnley, according to Martin Keown.

The Tottenham forward put himself in the running for the award by scoring an absolutely spectacular solo goal in December last year.

After picking up the ball just outside his own penalty area, the South Korea international made a bustling run forward skipping past the entire Burnley midfield and defense before dispatching a cool finish into the bottom corner to score his side’s third goal in the 5-0 Premier League win.

Luis Suarez, who scored a stunning backheel against Mallorca for Barcelona and Giorgian De Arrascaeta, for his audacious overhead kick for Flamengo against Ceara in the Campeonato Brasileiro Serie A, were the players who the Spurs star beat for the FIFA gong.

Many backed Son to pick up the Puskas right after he scored the goal, but an ex-Arsenal defender still remains unconvinced.

“I’m surprised it’s won an award of that esteem. It was a good goal but I wouldn’t say it was the best goal of the year scored anywhere,” said Keown talking to Jim White in the talkSPORT studio.

“He ran in almost a straight line, I don’t remember him weaving in and out of any players.

“If you look at the degree of difficulty… it was raw pace, I didn’t see him weave in between anyone. Did he deviate?

“I respect it, but I didn’t think it was [worthy of winning the Puskas].”
