After a tight voting from the fans, FIFA just announced the Puskas Award for the best goal scored throughout the year 2020.

The FIFA Puskas Award is one of the most recent prizes that gets awarded every single football year for the best goal scored throughout. In 2020, there were many great goals to remember but only three of them were selected to represent the best. Giorgian De Arascaeta’s overhead kick against Ceara joins Luis Suarez’s backheel goal in La Liga and Son’s stunner vs Burnley.

These three goals were selected to compete through the voting system online as it happens every single year. This is arguably one of the most unpredictable of all the awards that are getting delivered this year but the people have spoken. Son Heung-min has been selected with the most beautiful goal of 2020 after his spectacular solo goal against Burnley.

A Maradonian goal from Son.

The ones who voted for Sonny’s goal against Burnley have to be influenced by the recently deceased Diego Maradona, who scored a very similar goal in 1986. In fact, this goal is still considered the best in World Cup history. The South Korean forward took the ball from his own side of the pitch to get past several defenders before making a superb finish. It is one of those goals that you have a hard time forgetting due to how incredible it was. Funny enough, Son also said he was trying to pass the ball during all his journey to the goalkeeper but he never saw anybody open.

In his acceptance speech, Sonny said: “I got the ball but I couldn’t find another option, and scoring it was a great surprise for me. I didn’t realize I had scored such a great goal. I saw it after the match and I knew it was special. Everybody was very surprised. It was a spectacular sensation.”
