In one of the first awards of the ceremony, FIFA just announced the prize for the Best Goalkeeper of the year 2020. Not a surprise.

The Best Goalkeeper Award for 2020 was just announced by FIFA during today’s online ceremony that the whole world gets to enjoy. Amongst the nominees, we had Alisson Becker for his amazing year at Liverpool after winning the Premier League for the first time in over 30 years. We also have Jan Oblak for his always reliable saves for Atletico Madrid that never get old.

And last but not least, we have Manuel Neuer and his perfect year. In many ways, we believe Neuer could’ve easily been part of the main award of the evening. However, he will have to make do with what he has to win. After Ruud Gullit announced the award, he had a quick exchange with Neuer online to ask him about his impressions on the award.

Neuer’s acceptance speech for the Best Goalkeeper.

During his impressive year at Bayern Munich, Manuel Neuer was the man who led his side through a treble-winning season with his many exploits. There were many finals and instances in which his saves were good enough to win the titles his side lifted during last season. Funny enough, Neuer never won this award in previous years despite his already brilliant career.

We can’t forget this is the second treble he wins during his career, which is a major accomplishment all in itself. During the exchange with Ruud Gullit, this is what Neuer said: “Thank you very much. This has been one of the best years of my career. It’s been incredible what we’ve done. Out squad showed great mentality, we were all very motivated.”
