After scoring his goal against Atalanta on Tuesday, Mohamed Salah expressed his happiness for reaching a Liverpool legend’s record.
There are very few players in Liverpool history who can be compared to the legend Mohamed Salah reached last night. The Egyptian forward has now scored 21 Champions League goals after his display against Atalanta. With this new achievement, he matched Steven Gerrard’s record and reached the numbers of a legendary player.
This automatically gives him a chance to surpass Stevie in order to become the all-time leading goal scorer in the Champions League. He will have the next game against Atalanta to score his 22nd goal, but he wanted to celebrate last night’s achievement. After the impressive 0-5 victory that included a Diogo Jota hat-trick, Salah was questioned about his personal achievement.
Mo wants to win another Champions League.
“Of course I’m very happy to be the highest one. Steven Gerrard is a legend for the club. It’s something I’m very proud of,” he said post-match on Liverpool’s website. “But as I’ve said before, the most important thing is the team. So I’m happy to score goals to help the team to win games, that’s the most important thing.”
“Winning the Champions League again is tough, I don’t want to put pressure on us. But I think we are doing good in the Premier League, we’re doing good in the Champions League. As Liverpool, as a team we have to fight for everything – that’s our job, that’s why we have to put pressure on ourselves. I’m sure we’re going to fight in each competition, in the Premier League as well. We want to win everything and hopefully we can do it.”
