Reports from Spain claim Ronald Koeman has told Luis Suarez that he’s not a part of his plans at Barcelona, with the striker’s contract to be terminated.

So there you have it, Suarez is set to become the first sacrifice of new manager Koeman’s reign at Barcelona if the latest rumors from RAC1 prove to be the correct.

The Catalan sports radio network claims that Koeman had a brief phone call with Suarez on Monday morning and informed the striker he had no part in his plans for the new season.

Suarez, whose contract will expire next June with an option for an extension included, has now begun legal proceedings. His lawyers will meet Barcelona in the next few hours to end his deal.

No further updates have been released yet, but there will surely be more to follow before the end of the day.

If this is indeed the case, it will bring Suarez’s Blaugrana career to a very underwhelming and undeserved ending. It was only a few days, in fact, the Uruguayan announced he wanted to continue.

Suarez told El Pais: “There is talk of some names that the president gave, of changes that can be made, but no one told me that they want to do without me; if this is the desire of the club, it would be good if the person in charge that he chooses speaks directly to me,” he said.

“I have been in the club for six years. Enough time to say what they think. Better so filter if I am one of those who want me to leave. It remains to be seen.

“I also want the best for the club and my idea today is to continue, but if from the club they think that I am expendable, I have no problem speaking with those who decide.”

Ivan Rakitic’s future at Camp Nou is also reportedly under threat.
