According to a report from Spain, Sergio Ramos might be closer to leaving Real Madrid than ever before. We have the main reason why.

Sergio Ramos might no longer be needed at Real Madrid, the star defender has actively started looking for a new destination next summer. According to a report from Josep Pedrerol, the captain had a meeting with Florentino Perez a month ago to discuss his future. His plan was to request for a contract extension with a wage upgrade that would leave him at €15 million per season. But Florentino had other ideas about this.

The president’s plan was always to give Sergio Ramos one more year with 10% less of the wages he earns today (€12 million). As a reason for this decrease, Perez told Ramos that the players needed to lower their salary in order to keep the rest of the staff working with no layoffs. Pedrerol revealed what Ramos responded to this proposal right then and there. Some of the club’s supporters might not agree with the way Sergio Ramos reacted to this.

Ramos started hearing offers.

According to Pedrerol, other players who aren’t even at the club anymore have agreed to lower their salary. However, Sergio Ramos completely refused to do it when Florentino asked him to. Instead, the captain reapplied by telling Perez he would start hearing other offers from clubs in Europe. If this turns out to be true, we are curious to know what the club’s supporters think about this reaction.

So far, the club that feels closer to signing Sergio Ramos is PSG. Especially with Mauricio Pochettino talking about the defender during interviews. There are many disappointed fans who believed Sergio would react differently to this proposal from Perez. But at the end of the day, a footballer will always be a footballer. Where would you like Sergio Ramos to continue his career next summer?
