Gareth Bale deserved a better relationship with Real Madrid considering all the success he brought at the club, says Jonathan Barnett.
After completely falling out of favor under Zinedine Zidane and losing his place in the team, Gareth Bale finally completed a temporary switch to Tottenham last week.
The Welshman’s increasingly inconsistent displays saw his relationship with the Los Blancos faithful turn more and more sour over time, and his off-the-pitch quirks did not exactly help to mend his reputation.
Once the most expensive player in the world and cherished by the fans, he gradually became a subject of boos and taunts at Santiago Bernabeu.
Regardless of the fans’ opinion now, he remains one of the Spanish giants’ best players of recent times, having played a crucial role in their conquest of Europe between 2014 and 2018 among other successes.
“In my opinion, he wasn’t treated correctly for somebody who’s done so much for a great club. I think that things were wrong,” Jonathan Barnett, Bale’s agent, expressed his opinion to BBC Sport.
“It’s hard to put one finger on it but I think somebody who has achieved what he has achieved for a club, in seven years, should have been treated better.
“I don’t want to blame anybody or go into it. I think what the fans did was disgraceful and the club didn’t help.”
