A report from Spain has claimed Pique is the highest-paid player at Camp Nou by quite some margin.

Barcelona defender Gerard Pique has posted a screenshot of a bank statement to silence rumors over his salary.

Speaking on Catalan TV3 program ‘Onze’ of Esport 3 on Wednesday, journalist Lluis Canut said Pique is the biggest earner at Camp Nou ahead of fellow captains Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba in a list consisting of eight players.

Despite Pique agreeing to a pay cut last August, Canut claimed the 34-year-old would earn €28 million.

Pique hits back on social media

Evidently unimpressed by such claims, Pique shared a screenshot of his latest payment of 50% of his salary – a cool €2.3 million – to his 20m Twitter followers.

“Characters like this charging for public television to defend their friends,” he wrote in the caption.

“Here is 50 percent of my payroll earned on December 30th. Respect yourself a little.”
