The 8 highest-paid Barcelona players in 2022 revealed

The annual salaries of Barca’s biggest earners for 2022 have been revealed.

Despite reporting a debt of €1.35 billion last August, Barcelona remain one of the best payers amongst clubs in Europe for player salaries.

On the Catalan TV show ‘Onze’ of Esport 3 on Wednesday evening, journalist Lluis Canut revealed some surprising figures that the club’s elite players are currently earning at Camp Nou.

With Lionel Messi gone, Gerard Pique has taken over the mantle of Barcelona’s highest-paid player. The defender agreed to lower his previous €28 million wages before taxes last summer. However, Canut claims he still collected everything owned thanks to a loyalty bonus.

This alleged loyalty bonus is said to have a formula that ‘rewards’ Pique if he sees out the rest of his contract, which lasts until June 2024.

The eight highest-paid Barcelona players

Barcelona’s other two captains Sergio Busquets (€23m) and Jordi Alba (€20m) join Pique as the top three highest earners. Philippe Coutinho, who is set to leave the club for Aston Villa on loan, also makes the final cut in sixth.

Messi, who left Barca last summer in a free transfer to Paris Saint-Germain, earned €135 million per year before taxes in comparison. Antoine Griezmann, meanwhile, earned €21m before he returned to Atletico Madrid on loan at the start of the season.
