Messi wanted to leave Barcelona and PSG wanted him to reunited with Neymar at the Parc des Princes.

When the best player in the world is available, you visit the finance officers and ask them about your coffers. You think about how the money issues can be tackled to have Lionel Messi play inf front of your fans on a regular basis.

Paris Saint-Germain were in that position and they acted like any top club would according to Sporting Director Leonardo. The Brazilian did not shy away from stating the Parisians’ ambitions which eventually came to nothing as Messi reversed his decision.

“When we found out that he [Messi] wanted to leave Barcelona, we thought about it,” Marca quoted Leonardo.

“We wondered if it would be possible to make the signing.

“Players like that are completely out of the ordinary.”

Leonardo also took out time to discuss Eduardo Camavinga. The 17-year-old has impressed top European clubs and has been linked with a move to Real Madrid.

Rennes wanted 90 million Euros for his services prior to the coronavirus lockdown. However, the same cannot be said in the current market. Clubs are strapped for cash and no one is willing to break the bank only to get in trouble with UEFA Financial Fair Play regulations.

“He [Camavinga] is a player that we are observing, but his price before the COVID pandemic was around 90 million euros,” Leonardo confirmed.

“But now all the big clubs need to sell to comply with Financial Fair Play. The problem is that nobody is buying.”
