After failing to find minutes under Thomas Tuchel’s governance, Emerson Palmieri has taken a step out of Chelsea on loan.

Chelsea full-back Emerson Palmieri has finalized his loan move to Ligue 1 outfit Lyon.

The Italy international arrived at Stamford Bridge back in 2018 from Roma, however, he could not find regular playing time at Chelsea. Therefore, Emerson has now been sent to the French side on loan.

Lyon has the alternative to purchase the 27-year-old after his one year is completed at the club next summer. The Ligue 1 club announced Emerson’s arrival on their official website on Thursday.

It reads: “Olympique Lyonnais announces the arrival on loan of the defender and double European Champion (with Italy and Chelsea), Emerson Palmieri, through June 30, 2022.”

“This loan, for a fee of €500,000, to which could be added a maximum of €500,000 in bonuses. And will include a purchase option.”

“Olympique Lyonnais welcomes the arrival of Emerson. Who will be the third player, defender and Italian international in the history of the club, after Fabio Grosso (2007-2009) and Mattia de Sciglio last season.”
