During a press conference for Wolves, Nuno Espirito Santo revealed the real reason Adama Traore uses baby oil for his arms in matches.

Nuno Espirito Santo just clarified a major doubt we had about Adama Traore and his baby oil-filled arms. In recent months, it was revealed he uses this as a way to become slippery when defenders are trying to grab him. However, we didn’t know the origin of this tactic that the Spain international uses while playing for Wolves. As it turns out, Adama was suffering from a shoulder injury and the club’s medical staff was searching for solutions.

Somebody there came up with the idea to use baby oil in order to prevent more contact with opponents. But after the pain was gone, they realized this tactic had another effective use for the player. Since nowhere in the rulebook states that he can’t use baby oil in his arms, Traore has kept this tradition during his time at Wolves.

Nuno reveals the origin of Traore’s baby oil.

As a way to close the circle by knowing the origin of this tactic, Nuno responded to doubts from journalists: “It was not my idea but it’s a good idea. Definitely, yes [it helps him]. We felt the difference. It’s hard to stop Adama – and he becomes more slippery. I thought honestly it was a fantastic idea by the medical department who suggested that.

“It came from an injury he had on his shoulder which came from an opponent holding his arm. It [the baby oil] became an option to avoid it and he kept on doing it.” Every time we see Adama slipping through his defenders’ fingers, we will know the origin of this tactic. We wonder if the striker will take this same tradition to another club if he decides to play somewhere else.
