Real Madrid’s morale will not be at their highest when they take to the pitch against bitter-rivals on Saturday, given their recent form.

It what came as huge disbelief for the fans and to the general audience, Real Madrid succumbed to a defeat against underdogs Shakhtar Donetsk in their Champions League opener.

Los Blancos faced an uphill battle in the second half of overturning a 3-goal deficit. They did come close but not quite, losing the tie 3-2 at their temporary home.

Wednesday night saw Zinedine Zidane’s men on the wrong end of the scoreline for the second successive match, after yet another surprise loss to new La Liga side Cadiz.

Up next for the titleholders is the intimidating away game against FC Barcelona and they certainly do not go into El Clasico with a desirable form.

With that in mind, Luka Modric wants his team not to keep dwelling on their past misfortunes and start reevaluating their strengths.

“We have to carry on,” Modric said, as per Marca. “The next game is coming up fast and there’s no time to feel sorry for ourselves. We have to be much better in the coming games.

“It’s good that the next game is so soon. We need to be together and believe in each other and our quality, we haven’t forgotten how to play football.

“El Clasico is always a different game and we’ll definitely be up for it.”
