The Magpies crushed PSG to boost their qualifying chances from Group F of the Champions League.
Newcastle defeated Paris Saint-Germain 4-1 in their Champions League game on Wednesday. A fantastic attacking display by Eddie Howe’s men was enough to ensure their victory at St. James’ Park.
What happened?
PSG pushed for an early breakthrough, but it was the hosts who found the back of the net through Miguel Almiron in the 17th minute.
The goal forced Luis Enrique’s men to rush forward for the equalizer, providing more space for Newcastle’s counter-attacks. The Magpies doubled their lead when Dan Burn converted Bruno Guimaraes’ cross with a header in the 39th minute.
PSG hoped to bounce back in the second half but were rocked by Newcastle’s third goal only five minutes after the break. Gianluigi Donnarumma’s poor reaction wasn’t enough to save Sean Longstaff’s strike from inside the box as the hosts secured their win.
The Parisians managed to pull one back through Lucas Hernandes only six minutes after Longstaff’s goal. But the visitors lacked enough attacking edge to mount a comeback. Fabian Schar then put the icing on the cake for the hosts by making it 4-1 with a stunning shot from behind the box in the 91st minute.
