Spurs coach Jose Mourinho is extremely happy to sign Irish defender Matt Doherty from Wolverhampton.

Matt Doherty became Jose Mourinho’s third addition this summer, completing a £15 million move to Tottenham Hotspur.

The Irish defender could perfectly fit into Jose’s plans for the next season due to his work rate and versatility.

Mourinho prized his new defender’s career, saying he is really happy he won’t have to play against him anymore.

“First of all I have to thank Mr. Levy and Steve [Hitchen], also the player and agent to trust us and to make it happen,” Jose said via Football London.

“I hate to play against him, so I’m so, so happy that I don’t play against him again. I’m so happy that we have him.

“Incredible career at Wolves…League One, Championship, Premier League and Europa League. He did everything for them, so job done there.

“I know that he’s leaving with a lot pf pride but this is one new step for him and he’s full of motivation. I am so, so happy.

“We always want to have the best players and best possible squad. We are going to have months of competition non stop and we need a better squad than we had in the last season.

“These three players, Matt, Joe [Hart] and Pierre [Hojbjerg], the club did amazing to give to the squad. It’s really, really important for us that we are going to be stronger.”
