Tottenham have confirmed the £15m signing of Wolves defender Matt Doherty. He joins Spurs in a four-year deal.

Matt Doherty is the latest addition at Spurs as Jose Mourinho continues to strengthen ahead of the new season.

The North London side have already completed the signings of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Joe Hart this summer.

Doherty becomes the third new signing under Jose Mourinho and joins from yet another Premier League side in Wolves.

Spurs stepped up talks to sign the defender on Friday and completed the deal over the weekend. The reported fee for the deal is around 15m.

Tottenham confirmed the 28-year-old’s arrival via an official statement on their website.

“We are delighted to announce the signing of Matt Doherty from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

“Doherty has missed just seven league matches in the last four seasons. He has featured in 95 games in all competitions since Wolves returned to the Premier League in 2018, contributing 15 goals and 15 assists in that time.”

Doherty has spent the last 10 years of his career at Wolves. He joined the West Midlands club from Irish outfit Bohemians as a youngster in 2010.

The versatile player racked up 302 appearances for the club in total, scoring 28 goals, while also contributing an impressive 41 assists.

Meanwhile, Wolves are stepping up efforts for his replacement. Arsenal’s Ainsley-Maitland Niles is the likely target to be pursued.
