Matt Doherty forced to delete old Arsenal tweets after completing his move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in a hilarious video.

Irish defender Matt Doherty has completed his move from Wolverhampton to Tottenham Hotspur in a £15 million transfer deal.

The 28-year-old, however, was a passionate supporter of Spurs’ local rivals Arsenal in his early days, something he proudly shared on Twitter almost a decade ago.

Those tweets came back to haunt him today, as he was forced to delete them in a hilarious video.

Doherty was delighted to join Spurs, despite of his history as a huge Arsenal fan.

“I’m extremely happy – I guess if the people could see what we were just doing (in his signing photoshoot) with smiles on my face the whole time… I’m very proud to be joining such a big club,” he said in his first interview as a Tottenham player.

“With the size of the club, the training ground, the fact that we’ve got the best stadium in the world and possibly the best training ground in the world from what I’ve seen – and the manager… once I knew there was interest it was a no-brainer for me to get myself down to London.

“When I put the shirt on and when I get out there it’s all go for me. I get up and down and do as much as I can.”

The Irish defender, who can play as centre-back, right-back and right wing back will wear the number 2 in the Tottenham Hotspur shirt.

He scored four goals and noted four assists in 36 Premier League appearance last season.
