The Gunners boss made a surprise confession after watching his side beat Chelsea 4-2 on Wednesday.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has said he ‘has not been fair’ on Eddie Nketiah after the young striker scored a brace to stun Chelsea 4-2 at Stamford Bridge.
The 22-year-old, who is out of contract this summer, scored two goals at Stamford Bridge in only his second Premier League start of the season.
Given his lack of opportunities, Nketiah openly questioned his future in an interview earlier this week before Wednesday’s match-winning heroics in the London derby.
“If there is one player that I have been unfair with I think it’s him,” Arteta said about Nketiah during a post-match press conference.
“He has given me every right to do something different, and if Eddie doesn’t play more, it’s my fault and because as a manager I missed something or I haven’t had the courage to play him more.
“Today he showed me more how wrong I was.”
Emile Smith Rowe and Bukayo Saka were also on target to round up a stunning victory for the Gunners.
Arteta’s men are now level on 57 points with north London rivals Tottenham in fourth. The two face one another on May 12 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with only six games left for this season.
For now, however, Arsenal’s focus will be on Manchester United this coming Saturday. The Emirates hosts are favorites. Bet365 has priced them at odds of 2.05, which suggests they have a 49% chance of victory.
