Ansu Fati may be already setting landmarks in his young career, but the Barcelona sensation continues to learn from Lionel Messi.

Fati and Messi were on target as Barcelona began their Champions League campaign with a stunning 5-1 win over Ferencvaros.

The Hungarian visitors at Camp Nou were powerless to prevent the inevitable as the hosts made light work of them in record-breaking fashion, with Messi’s penalty breaking the deadlock before the half-hour mark.

While it was the Argentine’s only goal of the night, it was enough to equal Ryan Giggs’ record of scoring in 16 successive Champions League campaigns.

“Messi is still Messi,” Fati told Movistar. “He can score in any action.

“We are very happy to have him here with us and I continue to learn from him.”

Fati later doubled the Blaugrana’s lead to become the competition’s first player to score two goals before his 18th birthday.

“We start with a good victory, we have to continue like that,” Fati added. “[My goal is] thanks to all my team-mates, they make things easy for me. It’s a fantastic pass from Frenkie [De Jong] and I just had to push the ball.”

17-year-old Pedri’s goal in the second-half, meanwhile, meant Barcelona became the first team to boast two goalscorers aged 17 or under in a Champions League game.

“It’s good for the team, it means we’re good,” Fati added.

“The more competitive there is between us, the better. We all come out better.”

Philippe Coutinho and Ousmane Dembele were also on target in Barcelona’s 5-1 routing on Tuesday night.

Ronald Koeman’s side will now prepare to welcome Real Madrid at Camp Nou on Saturday for the first Clasico of the season in La Liga.
