PSG hope to tie the striker down to a new long-term contract amid reported interest from clubs around Europe, including Real Madrid.

Kylian Mbappe’s father, Wilfried, has revealed his son is open to committing his future to Paris Saint-Germain and talks have been ‘progressing well’ in the past fortnight.

The 21-year-old is one of the most exciting young players in Europe, having won many major honors in record-breaking fashion. His progress has stirred interest from several major European clubs.

Real Madrid are allegedly favorites to sign Mbappe if he were to leave PSG, with his current contract to expire in June 2022.

But PSG sporting director Leonardo recently announced talks over an extension are underway, with Mbappe’s father offering a promising update.

“We talk, we talk,” Wilfried told Canal Plus as quoted on Goal.

“We want to talk, I think he too wants to discuss. It’s normal. The time comes to have a clearer idea about his future.

“We are talking quietly, things are progressing well, we have taken steps forward compared to 10-15 days ago. We will continue.”

Mbappe scored his 100th goal for PSG in Saturday’s 3-1 win over Montpellier as a second-half substitute.

The Frenchman later confessed the desire to reach ‘the legendary 100 mark’ had distracted him, explaining how he went three games without a goal before the weekend.

Asked if the ongoing speculation over his future could have a similar effect, the star’s father replied: “It cannot disturb him because he plays in a great team, and is surrounded by great players.

“It allows him to get closer to his dreams and his ambitions.”
