Manchester United are closing in on deals for Edinson Cavani and Alex Telles, but chances of a deal for Ousmane Dembele are in doubt.
A summer of promise instead turned to be a rumble for Manchester United, with Donny van de Beek their only signing to date. Try as they did, the Red Devils couldn’t bring in their desired targets; especially Jadon Sancho.
Sunday’s 6-1 home defeat to Tottenham in the Premier League has since left the club in shambles. It’s now a make or break scenario, where new players are needed to help Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side recover.
So the arrival of a renowned goalscoring talent in Edinson Cavani will be a welcome relief at Old Trafford.
Edinson Cavani and Alex Telles are both signing their contract as Manchester United players.
Still no agreement with Barcelona for Ousmane Démbélé – #MUFC offering loan, Barça only let him go for a permanent deal. Complicated.
Details also pending for Facundo Pellistri 🔴 #ManUtd— Fabrizio Romano (@FabrizioRomano) October 5, 2020
The 33-year-old striker, who is a free agent after leaving Paris Saint-Germain, is in the final stages of completing his transfer as per Fabrizio Romano. The renowned transfer expert also claims Telles is in a similar stage in negotiations.
The FC Porto full-back, who reportedly interested Manchester City as well, was pictured arriving at the club’s Aon Training Complex for a medical on Monday morning.
It’s understood that he will put pen-to-paper on a five-year contract with a salary of £3.6m a season with add-ons, pending the outcome of his medical. United, in turn, will pay Porto around £18m. The hope is that he’ll challenge Luke Shaw for a spot in their line-up.
Hopes of signing Dembele from Barcelona as an alternative for Sancho appear low, however. RMC Sport has already claimed the Frenchman won’t be leaving, with Romano claiming only a permanent deal will sway the Catalans into a sale.
18-year-old Amad Traore could also be another player to make a deadline day switch to United. The Atalanta winger could join on Monday or in January after a move to Parma fell through.

Cavani, meanwhile, is expected to agree on a two-year deal with the Red Devils. He’s impressed club officials with his desire and could take on a mentorship role to help develop the younger players in the squad.
