In a shocking twist of events for a Premier League giant, Edinson Cavani appears to have closed a deal for the next two seasons.

Edinson Cavani appears to have reached an agreement with one of the Premier League’s biggest clubs. The Uruguay international has been trying to find a place where he can keep scoring goals at the highest level. According to ESPN’s Moi Llorens, the former PSG striker and Manchester United reached a new agreement for the next two seasons.

Initially, the club refused to pay his elevated €10 million wage and his agent’s fees. It was reported that both parts agreed to sign a free transfer for a year, with an option to extend the deal for one more. This closes any opportunity Cavani had to play in the Spanish La Liga with Atletico Madrid. Other possible prospects were Benfica, Juventus, Real Madrid, and even Inter Milan. However, the player’s elevated salary was always the main obstacle to his arrival.

Ed Woodward approved the transfer.

English sources revealed that Cavani refused to lower his wage demands and the deal nearly fell apart. However, chairman Ed Woodward understands the importance to sign a proper veteran striker who can secure at least 20 goals per season. Despite Cavani’s age, his background confirms that he has what it takes to reach those numbers without question.

Another aspect that convinced Ed to agree on the transfer is the player’s discipline and physical preparation. Few players in the world have the level of endurance Cavani has, which is becoming a trend with other veterans like Zlatan or Cristiano Ronaldo. The ESPN report confirms that the agreement will be announced on Monday at the latest.
