Ex-PSG forward Edinson Cavani could be set for a move to Atletico Madrid, according to Daniel Zicari, the Uruguayan’s manager while at Danubio.

Edinson Cavani continues to be linked to a host of clubs but one claim points at the striker joining Atletico Madrid.

The 33-year-old left Paris Saint-Germain after seven years in Ligue 1, which saw him score 200 goals in 301 games for the French side.

There has been no shortage of suitors for Cavani, with United touted as a possible destination for the striker.

Daniel Zicari is well familiar with the Uruguayan forward, having managed him while he was a youngster with his native side Danubio.

Going by the comments of his ex-manager, Cavani could be on his way to join Uruguay teammate Luis Suarez at Atletico Madrid.

“Here we take it for granted that Cavani will be a new Atleti player, so I think so,” Zicari said to AS in an interview.

“It was a shame that it did not materialize in January. It would be very emotional for him to end up with Suarez … they are both from the same city.

“He is a great player and Atletico, a great club. If he plays as a team, I think he can exceed 20 goals. He is a decisive footballer with a high percentage of goals and chances.

“In addition to contributing many goals, he also has a great way of playing, position on the court, he is very positive, he is very supportive in the game.”

Cavani remains a free agent at the moment but the thought of playing alongside Luis Suarez will surely be an interesting one for him to consider.
