The former Chelsea striker has been a free agent since December, and a Premier League return has been suggested.
Manchester City have decided against signing free agent Diego Costa as cover for their frontmen, according to the Daily Mail.
Costa, who ended his contract with Atletico by mutual consent at the end of December, remains without a new side. But while the winter transfer window closed on Monday, he can still sign for any club as a free agent.
Despite reports linking the striker to a top-six Premier League side, however, it won’t be City. The league leaders have decided against making a move, even though Sergio Aguero has struggled for fitness this season. Questions have also been raised over Gabriel Jesus’ reliability in Pep Guardiola’s frontline.
It seems a lackluster second spell with Atletico, along with Costa’s own injury problems in recent seasons, has convinced Guardiola to not sign him on a short-term contract.
