Ace Football previews the Premier League match between Liverpool and West Brom, and offers betting tips, odds, line-ups, and team news.
Sam Allardyce, the last Premier League manager to oversee a win away to Liverpool, returns to Anfield looking to repeat history with West Brom on Sunday evening.
The Baggies have suffered a miserable return to the English top-flight and sit second-bottom in the league table on seven points from 14 games. Liverpool, on the other hand, can extend their lead at the top with another victory.
Although West Brom have fared well against the Reds in the past. The last encounter between the clubs ended in a 2-2 draw in April 2018, extending their head-to-head record in the last nine league meetings to six draws and three defeats.
This, along with their recent stalemate at Manchester City and Allardyce’s record against Jurgen Klopp, should give the visitors hope. That said, Liverpool are completely different from two years ago and remain favorites for all three points.
Liverpool Form & Stats
A 7-0 thrashing of Crystal Palace last time out moved Liverpool clear at the top of the league. The titleholders can now extend their lead over second-place Everton to five points with a 10th win of the season (D4 L1) against West Brom.
Jurgen Klopp’s side will be optimistic about pulling off this feat on Sunday evening. A stunning 66-match unbeaten home run in the Premier League, 32 wins out of a possible 33 (D1), and a 14-game home winning streak against promoted clubs under Klopp, makes them favorites.
Mohamed Salah, meanwhile, has continued his prolific form. The Egyptian has scored in each of Liverpool’s last five games in all competitions, including a brace in only 33 minutes against Crystal Palace.
Roberto Firmino has also impressed recently, scoring three goals in his last two appearances, after overcoming a tough start to the season.
Key Team Stats
- Won all 7 home league games this season.
- Won all 14 home league games against newly-promoted clubs under Jurgen Klopp.
- Mohamed Salah has managed 9 goals and 6 assists in 10 league games against newly-promoted clubs.
- Roberto Firmino has scored 3 goals in his last 2 league games.
West Brom Form & Stats
If you’re set for a relegation scrap in the Premier League, Sam Allardyce is the manager to call on. ‘Big Sam’ has an excellent track record of lifting clubs to safety in the English top-flight. In fact, out of the seven clubs he’s coached so far, the Englishman is yet to be relegated.
Allardyce is also the last Premier League manager to beat Liverpool at Anfield after leading Crystal Palace to a 3-1 win on April 23, 2017 (1,346 days ago) and is unbeaten in his last three visits to the venue.
Life at the Hawthorns, however, began on a bitter note in a 3-0 defeat to Aston Villa last weekend. Hopes of Allardyce overturning things at short notice appear bleak.
West Brom have also fared poorly on the road this season, having lost five of their seven games (D2), and have won just once in the league overall so far (D4 L9).
Key Team Stats
- Lost 9 of their 14 league games this season (W1 D4).
- Lost 5 of their 7 away league games this season (D2).
- Drawn 6 of their last 9 league games against Liverpool (L3).
- Sam Allardyce is unbeaten in his last 3 visits to Anfield.
- Sam Allardyce has drawn 3 of his 6 games against Jurgen Klopp (W1 L2).
