Revenge will be on the agenda as Liverpool head into the first of two clashes with Arsenal at Anfield, starting on Monday evening in the Premier League. Another meeting at the same venue in the Carabao Cup comes three days later.

There will undoubtedly be a sense of wanting to strike back when Jurgen Klopp’s side play host to Arsenal. They’ve lost their last two games against the London club, including the Community Shield on penalties last month.

Although the visitors have everything to play for themselves, with both sides out to preserve their 100% starts to the 2020/21 campaign.

Liverpool Form & Stats

The Reds are unbeaten at home in the Premier League since April 2017, having gone 60 games without defeat. It’s the third-longest streak in English top-flight history and leaves them in good shape. Winning on Monday will also take a higher priority than it did in their previous two meetings with Arsenal.

Their 2-0 win over Chelsea last time out in the league served as a welcome boost, with Liverpool delivering a much better performance compared to their opening day 4-3 victory over Leeds United. The difference was immense. Particularly in the defense, where they seemed more like their old selves.

Arsenal will hope, though, that Liverpool’s backline run into further problems at Anfield after conceding three or more goals in successive home league matches for the first time since 1982 against Chelsea (5-3, July 22) and Leeds (4-3, September 12).

Although the Premier League champions’ strong record against their opponents at home arguably makes them favorites.

Key Team Stats
  • Have won their past four home league games against Arsenal.
  • Over 2.5 goals scored and undefeated in the last eight home games against Arsenal in all competitions.
  • Won 37 of their last 40 home league games.
  • Have scored in 35 home league games.
  • Conceded three goals in consecutive home league fixtures for the first time since September 1982.
  • No reigning champion has won their first three league games since Manchester United in 2011/12.
  • 26 of Mohamed Salah’s last 33 league goals have come at home.

Arsenal Form & Stats

Mikel Arteta has worked wonders since becoming the Arsenal manager with the team in much better shape compared to last year. They’re organized, playing more attractive football, and the players are brimming with confidence.

The double-header at Anfield in the Premier League and Carabao Cup will be Arteta’s biggest test yet, though. The Gunners have a poor record in Merseyside, having lost their last five meetings and conceded 20 goals. In fact, they haven’t won away to Liverpool since September 2012.

Although Arsenal’s recent triumphs over the Reds should give them cause of optimism. Their defense, meanwhile, has been much stronger than in recent seasons, with just one goal conceded in their three games in all competitions this term.

Arteta has also suggested he may adopt a more pragmatic approach for the visit to Liverpool to get a result. Thus, the ‘Arsenal way’ of an open style of play may be abandoned for a more defense-minded approach.

Key Team Stats
  • Won their last three league games.
  • Winless in 27 away league games against the ‘top-six’ sides and conceded 61 goals. (P27 D10 L17).
  • Over 2.5 goals scored in five of their last six league games.
  • Haven’t won their opening three league games of a new season since 2004/05.
  • Alexandre Lacazette has scored four goals in his last six league games.
  • Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang hasn’t registered a shot on target in his four league games against Liverpool.
