Robert Lewandowski and Serge Gnabry have surpassed Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale as the Champions League’s highest goalscoring duo.
It was another goal-laden affair for Bayern Munich on Wednesday as they overcame Lyon 3-0 in the Champions League semi-finals, with Lewandowski and Gnabry in the thick of the action.
The latter struck first in scoring a brace inside the opening 33 minutes of the match. It took his tally for this season to nine Champions League goals, which includes that sensational quadruple against Tottenham last October.
The only German footballer to score more goals in one Champions League campaign was Mario Gomez, who scored 12 times in 2011/12.
Lewandowski then headed in a late third to become only the second player to score 15 goals in the competition after Ronaldo, who did it three times for Real Madrid in 2013/14 (17 goals), 2015/16 (16 goals), and 2017/18 (15 goals).
Gnabry and Lewandowski’s goals in Lisbon led UEFA to declare them the highest-scoring duo in Champions League history.

The pair’s combined total of 24 goals this season surpasses the tally Ronaldo and Bale’s 23-goal haul during Real Madrid’s triumphant 2013/14 campaign.
Ronaldo scored a record 17 goals back then, with Bale chipping in six of his own.
Paris Saint-Germain, who defeated RB Leipzig 3-0 in their own semi-final clash, now await Bayern in Sunday’s Champions League final.
