We are about to enter a new era in Argentina with Lautaro Martinez playing next to Lionel Messi ahead of the upcoming World Cup. The FC Barcelona star needs to find his best partnership with the Inter Milan striker if he wants to fight for the next two trophies.
Lautaro has next summer’s Copa America and the 2022 World Cup amongst his objectives. Leo Messi has been looking for a companion who can play at Lautaro’s level in order to fulfill his bucket list before hanging up his boots as a professional. It is no surprise that Martinez places Messi as the best player in the world.
However, hearing him talk about the captain’s characteristics is refreshing. Many even think Lautaro can strike up a partnership with Messi that can even be compared to the one he had with Luis Suarez at FC Barcelona.
Lautaro wants to win everything with Messi.
Ahead of a new season in Europe, Martinez wanted to highlight Messi’s talents. Although they haven’t played each other too many times, Lautaro can still make an educated assessment about his teammate.
“I know Leo more from the times we’ve been teammates for the Argentine national team rather than from having come up against him,” Lautaro told UEFA.com
“I’ve said it in the past, and will say it again now and in the future: he’s the best player in the world.
“The fact he’s Argentinian is a source of pride for us and we always try to learn from him.
“For me, he’s on another level, he understands the game in a different way and he’s always a step ahead of everyone else.”
