The Gunners’ top scorer of the season was forced off the pitch moments after the Cottagers had hurt his side by firing in the opener.

Alexandre Lacazette suffered a hamstring injury during Arsenal’s Premier League meeting with Fulham, Mikel Arteta has confirmed.

Lacazette went down to the ground clutching his hamstring as Arsenal broke forward to attack. Unable to continue, he was subbed off in the 70th minute.

Arteta’s side looked set for another loss as they trailed until deep into stoppage time but the French forward’s replacement – Eddie Nketiah – tapped home from close range at minute 90+7 to ensure his side don’t walk away empty-handed.

“He felt his hamstring so we don’t know,” the Gunners boss told Sky Sports after the 1-1 draw. “We have to rotate players, we have players who didn’t recover from the game on Thursday.

“That is the risk. You cannot change those players every game.”

With 17 goals in 38 games in all competitions, Lacazette is his side’s leading goalscorer this season. His absence for an extended period of time could be a major blow for Arsenal’s hopes of climbing up the Premier League table and Europa League glory.

Nketiah added on his teammate: “I wish Laca a speedy recovery – he’s important to the team and hopefully will be back as soon as possible.”
