Arteta warned his players against making a ‘big mistake’ as the Arsenal boss issued a Premier League demand.

Mikel Arteta has warned Arsenal to not put all their eggs in one basket by focusing all their efforts on winning the Europa League.

A 5-1 aggregate quarter-final success over Slavia Prague has set up a meeting between Arteta’s Arsenal and former Gunners boss Unai Emery and his Villarreal side in the semi-finals.

Winning the Europa League, of course, would be satisfying indeed. Not only would it guarantee European football for next season, regardless of where Arsenal finish in the Premier League, but it would also end the club’s four-year absence from the Champions League.

But as tempting as it may be, Arteta knows Arsenal cannot ease off the gas in the Premier League.

“Putting our eggs in one basket would be a big mistake,” said the Gunners manager as per the Mirror.

“I love that phrase. My dad has always told me that since I was 15 years old. We cannot do that.

“The league is really important — there are a lot of points to play for, and there have been a lot of changes in recent weeks in terms of the table.

“We want to be involved right until the last match and the way to do it is to put a run together ourselves.”

Arsenal take on Fulham in a London derby on Sunday afternoon for their latest Premier League match at the Emirates.

Four first-team stars in Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Martin Odegaard, Kieran Tierney, and David Luiz won’t be available.
