The Liverpool manager fumed at referee Paul Tierney after his side’s draw against Tottenham.

Tottenham held Liverpool to a 2-2 draw in their Premier League game on Sunday. Jurgen Klopp’s side were 2-1 ahead when Heung-Min Son changed the game’s dynamic with an equalizer in the 74th minute.

Two minutes later, referee Paul Tierney sent Andrew Robertson off after a careless challenge on Emerson Royal. The decision frustrated Klopp, especially because Tierney had let Harry Kane escape with a yellow card after a similar foul.

After the final whistle, Klopp approached the referee and said: “I have no problems with referees – only you.”

The Liverpool boss’ action forced the English FA to file an investigation. However, they have decided against warranting an action for the furious rant.

Robertson’s red card was not the only scene that bothered Klopp. He also spoke about Emerson’s foul on Diogo Jota, which did not persuade the referee to give Liverpool a penalty.

“The penalty decision, Mr Tierney told me he thought Diogo Jota stopped on purpose and wanted to get hit,” Klopp said.

“If you watch the situation back, it’s a very exclusive view.

“It’s really difficult to do these things that quickly. I’m not sure why it was a very quick decision from him. He saw it and I’m not sure he was prepared for it or whatever, but if you watch the situation, how can he (the referee) react that quick?

“It’s a clear penalty but he thought it was clearly not a penalty. Wow.”

Liverpool will face Leicester City in a Carabao Cup game on Wednesday before meeting Leeds United four days later.
