After the victory against Sevilla in La Liga, Gerard Pique wanted to send a hopeful message to all Barcelona supporters. Do they have a shot?
FC Barcelona seemed completely lost before defeating Sevilla today, Gerard Pique is still hopeful for the future. Now that the Catalan defender is back from his injury, Barcelona can rest easy with his presence on the pitch. Even though he seemed to feel some pain on his knee during the first half, the scare was only momentary and he kept on playing with no issues. Pique’s presence meant that Sevilla wasn’t able to take a single shot on target due to his defensive work.
After the match, he is the one who decided to stand in front of the microphone to talk to the press. Pique tends to speak after every game against Sevilla in this stadium but he often has to explain a bad result. This is a positive change for him after the convincing 0-2 victory on Saturday. However, the Catalan defender thinks Barcelona still has a chance to win trophies despite their obvious complicated moment in all competitions.
Pique harbors hopes to win La Liga.
“There’s a title race, definitely,” Pique said at full time via Marca. “We’ve seen much worse things and the team, despite those two games [against Sevilla in the Copa del Rey and PSG in the Champions League], is one to believe in this year. Sevilla, at home, didn’t have a shot on target nor created clear chances. It’s not an ideal situation, but I’m confident in the team. Everything is in our head.
“If we turn it around on Wednesday [against Sevilla in the Copa], the season changes completely. We’d be in the final of the Copa, we’re still alive in LaLiga… They’re only little things. We’ve spoken to the boss about building my match load bit by bit. I’m playing more than I expected after so many months out injured. I’ve been able to train a bit and we’d agreed on a schedule. I’m very happy to be able to keep participating and I feel proud of today’s game.”
